Music Adventure Lessons and workshops
Learn, Create, Enjoy with a Music Adventure!
Children and Adults; if you live locally and want to explore musical ideas, choices and creation without knowing what instrument you’d like to try…a Music Adventure session might be for you. Suitable for those with no instrumental skills as yet (to help discover their musical preferences and abilities) and for accomplished musicians to explore music in a new, exciting way. No prior musical knowledge is necessary, but if you have some already it will help you build on it, whatever your level.

These individual tailored sessions are great fun and are ideal for developing creative music making. Each one has an emphasis on exploration, improvisation, collaboration, aural and vocal expression (if desired) and utilise all sorts of instruments, methods and styles to help students enjoy the experience and get the most out of it. With lots of musical games/activities, you will gain; a general understanding of how music works and learn the co-ordination, musical understanding and listening skills necessary for music and explore musical ideas and structures. In longer sessions, students will finish with their own unique MP3 multi-track recording of their own unique creations, with them playing everything on it!
Lessons are in person in my studio in Bude (not suitable for zoom I’m afraid as it’s so hands on) where there is a very wide range of facilities and exciting instruments to try. Sessions suit children from aged 6 upwards and are ideal for adults too. Each session is an hour, apart from children aged 6 or under who come for 45mins.
Existing Learners:
Music Adventures are also ideal for existing players who want to try something completely different with their music or perhaps feel a bit stuck with it. Would you like to know how to freely improvise on any instrument you try? …or build a song, or fit a rhythm to a melody or really understand how to play by ear, or add chordal harmony to your song? Perhaps you always wanted to know the difference between major and minor, waltz and hornpipe or what syncopation is?.. These sessions enable musicians to explore many other aspects of music and really build those listening and understanding skills.
Adults are very welcome too, especially retired people
It’s ideal for adults as well and I particularly enjoy encouraging adults and retired people to start, or return to their music making. Perhaps you need inspiration or a reminder of how wonderful and exciting music is after a long gap without playing..? Or perhaps you want to truly understand how your learning so far fits in with a wider understanding of creating music, or take it in a new direction, or explore other styles. The starting point is the music YOU respond too, so it’s very person centred.
These are run as individual sessions only and are tailored to the person’s musical interests, current ability and knowledge. Fantastic for existing players (any instrument/voice) to understand and apply theory, working by ear and knitting together a wider musical understanding and creative techniques.
All sessions are devised and run by Rowena; a highly skilled and patient music teacher with 30+ years experience teaching privately including 13 years with award winning Brighton and Hove Music & Performing Arts Service in schools.
