Encouraging, patient and highly experienced teacher. Come and learn the violin or piano one-to-one in person in my studio in Bude with a wide range of facilities available, enabling you to explore other aspects of music and really build your listening and understanding skills too.
As a creative musician with 30+ years experience teaching violin and piano, privately and for 13 years with award winning Brighton and Hove Music & Performing Arts Service in schools, I love teaching beginners from age 6 upwards and also enjoy encouraging adults and retired people to start, or return to their music making. I was a specialist in running (and arranging) Folk Courses for any instrument in Sussex and have a lot of knowledge in that area too. I use a flexible, student centred teaching approach and can include offering ABRSM and Trinity exam syllabus and/or learning purely by ear. All styles broadly covered in lessons. I have a special interest in using improvisation and composition within lessons where appropriate.

Well I can help! I have lots of pupils who know me as an encouraging and patient teacher, whatever your learning needs are.. I utilise all sorts of methods and styles to help you enjoy your experience and get the most out of it.
Amazing local charity ‘Sound Waves South West’ supplies free violin loans to my students (all sizes available) and I would put you in touch to organise and collect one of the correct size. As long as you continue lessons in Bude you can keep your violin. https://soundwaves-sw.co.uk/
As a qualified Mindfulness teacher too, I offer in person and zoom ‘Mindful Music’ lessons to individual existing musicians wishing to improve their performance, practice and/or enjoyment without stress and reduced inhibition.
I have an enhanced DBS certificate, Public Liability insurance, Child Protection in Education compliant certification, codes of conduct, Risk Assessments and Safeguarding policies fully in place and available for inspection, along with testimonials from pupils’ families.
